August 2021 Wrap Up

Happy September! I don't know about you, but I am beyond ready for fall. They had the pumpkin spice creamer back in the stores last Friday and I of course had to get a bottle. I may have already had several cups of pumpkin spice coffee... But anyways, back to books. I was able to get through a lot this month and this has been my best of the year! I was able to finish the Ripped Bodice Summer Bingo as well as Boards 2 and 3 of the Summer of Soon! [link will be added once the 3rd wrap up is posted.]

Most of my reading came towards the end of the month once I was really able to get out of my slump. I tried to participate in the Dark Romance Readathon, but only ended up with one book for that. That's okay though since I didn't want to get back into that funky mood where I'm not quite in a full blown slump. I was also pretty varied this month and ended up reading a lot of contemporary, which isn't a genre I'm drawn too usually. A lot of the challenges I've been participating in though have prompts that are usually easier met with contemporary, so that is a big part of it. Also, I started following several readers that mainly stick with contemporary to help curate my selections there. I've also continued my trend of reading a lot of newer releases. As always, my stats are listed below followed by the list of books I read in order read. The links will be to the corresponding review and I'll update as they are posted!

πŸ’— It's a little hard to pick my favorites this month since I was pretty varied in my subgenres. For historical it has to be Kathryn Caskie. While the Lisa Kleypas books were amazing, it was as expected. Kathryn Caskie is a new author to me and I'm so happy to find a new historical author to read. I can't wait to get through the rest of her backlist! I also found a couple new contemporary authors, Max Monroe and Teri Osburn. I really loved Single Dad Seeks Juliet and almost want to reread it already. As for disappointment, there are two that stick out. I was really let down by Rocky Waters. The premise sounded so good but it was too short and just written really oddly. Then there's Kiss An Angel and that fact that I was triggered for the first time. Just a perfect storm that really messed with my head. I'm glad I was able to binge Jackie Lau to get me out of my head.

Things might start calming down in September. Today starts the autumn reading challenge Fall In Love. I'm sure we'll see another round of the Paranormal Romance Readathon and/or the Love in the Night Readathon since we are getting closer to spooky season. I don't know if there's anything else planned at this point. I do need to start buckling down on getting some Christmas presents made, but I might try looking for some audiobooks. I kept checking this month if there were audiobooks for what I wanted to read on my apps, but no luck. I could join a service, but since I'm not 100% into them yet, I wanted to stick to the free options available via my library. I also found a new marvel podcast called The Abingers so that's been my jam lately. I've been wanting to rewatch the MCU and want to do that paired with the podcast. I tend to watch a lot of tv and youtube when I craft, but we'll see what happens! Especially with football coming back as well as hockey (preseason starts later this month)!

How was your reading last month?

Bookishly Yours,

Stasi🍎

How I Rate Books

Before I get into posting my reviews, I wanted to do a guideline for how I rate things. There are a lot of people that critically review and...
