Deep, Deep Donuts by Megan Wade

🍎🍎🍎🍎

Continuing in my light fluffy reads, I decided to pick up Megan Wade's newest novella, Deep, Deep Donuts. This is the first book in the multi-author series Lovers Lake. I wanted to keep the fluffy feeling and keep in a lighter frame of mind before getting back to my planned tbr this weekend. I also was able to apply this to the prompts protagonist smells like bread (donuts are a bread dough, I'm counting it!) for the Ripped Bodice's Summer Bingo and set in summer for Summer of Swoon board 2.

We meet Tamara, the owner of a donut food truck. She used to have an ice cream truck, but hasn't switched over the permits for her new truck. Because of this, she has her friend keep an eye out for the local police officer Wes during his patrols. He's a bicycle cop, and always gets excited when he smells her donuts. He always tries to get there right away before she sells out, and then tries to chase her down to place an order for the next day. Tamara however thinks he's coming after her and runs away. Finally, Wes catches her.

This was such a cute read, but it was definitely insta-love. I don't mind the insta-love usually, especially if I know beforehand, but this one was a little over the top. Okay, there's an attraction neither of them have felt and Tamara's a virgin. It just felt weird that they had seen each other from afar a few weeks, but only knew each other a few days before talking about marriage and kids. I think I would've felt more fulfilled if that wasn't how it ended (before the epilogue). I also didn't like that Wes didn't bring condoms when it was pretty much implied they were going to get intimate after their date. He asks right before full intimacy if she's on birth control, but that's it. Then they talk about kids. Just too fast for me.

Not too long of a review this time, but it was cute, with a little bit of steam. Not as much as her previous novellas, but enough that my expectations weren't let down. I'll definitely continue on reading Megan Wade's novellas, but I think I'll try to keep them as palate cleansers. I am intrigue by some of the other tropes and blurbs of the other books in this series and will probably try a few of them. Maybe before the summer ends since it's all geared to summer vibes.

Wrong Car, Wright Brother by Megan Wade

🍎🍎🍎🍎

After binging through the Kingmakers, I needed a little palate cleanser and change of pace. I decided to pick up another Megan Wade. I thought I was going for one of her newer novellas, but this is more of a shorter full length novel. Wrong Car, Wright Guy is the first book in her Wrong, Wright series. Update: I applied this to the prompt of on tbr due to synopsis for the 3rd board of Summer of Swoon.

Our heroine is Ruby. We meet her at a bar to celebrate her friends birthday with her twin brother and his boyfriend. Her friend's boyfriend had just broke up with her, so there's lots of shots. As they are walking home/looking for a cab, they see a Porsche and think it's her ex's car. Ruby, drunk as a skunk, decides to key a big dick on it. A guy she finds attractive comes up to her, and it's actually his car. Surprises ensue as he is Tanner, the new radio personality at her station. He maneuvers Ruby so instead of the morning board operator she is now his personal assistant for his afternoon show.

Like I mentioned above, I went with Megan Wade thinking I was getting a sweet and quick novella. This is more of a shorter book being above 200 pages. It was interesting reading a longer book from her, but I really liked it. I still got the sweet, steamy feels as her novella, but we got a little bit more of everything. It also helped the insta-love from feeling too fast. There is a little bit of a time jump here once they start working together. I loved the banter between them. While I am not someone that can argue and flirt at the same time, Ruby and Tanner do. It's pretty tension filled and when they finallly pop that bubble, woo boy. This goes from 0 to 100, but I loved it! It was a little predictable, but that didn't really bother me. That's apart of the reason I was drawn to this. The only thing that I didn't like was the social/political commentary. I'm not someone that enjoys getting into debates/arguments about those things. I understood and appreciated the representation in here. I was just expecting light hearted, fluffy and steamy. It was that, but the more political conversations kind of took me out of the escape I was looking for. It was still written well and had nice points, it just wasn't what I was expecting or looking for.

If you are interested in trying Megan Wade, but don't like novellas, this is a great option to try. I'll definitely read more of her books and will continue this series for sure. I'll most likely save them to fill the same sort of role in my reading, as a palate cleanser. This was just what I needed to get me back into a reading mood. Although it also helps that the Olympics are wrapping up so I'm not prioritizing that anymore.

Giggles & Sheets by Megan Wade

🍎🍎🍎🍎

After finishing Broken Vow and watching the Rake Appreciation live show for Indigo, I wanted a quick novella read before jumping into Heavy Crown. I originally was thinking of going back to sci-fi, but the sci-fi romance novellas I've been into lately aren't really novellas and more in the 200+ page range. I went through my other novellas and decided to finally try a Megan Wade. I have most of her books on my kindle and thought why not finally give her a try. I went the first book in her Happy Curves series, Sheets & Giggles. I applied this to the Summer of Swoon prompt blue on the cover.

This is a quick romp about Ellie, a writer. She has a new neighbor and there's been some banging on the wall since he moved in. His name is Ashton and she mistakes the banging as him having relations with a lady she's seen visiting him daily. She mistakes this banging and they end up getting together.

Now this is a short book and I was looking for a short novella, but I did wish that it was a little longer and in the 75-100 page range. They have a sexy and whirlwind weekend and it's just kind of mentioned. I do wish we would've seen more of that time of them together. It's very insta-love and the characters are self-aware to realize that it's very quick. This is right what I was looking for and the 4-stars is for what this is. It was sweet, the steam scenes were good and I found myself chuckling a few times. Like I mentioned, I just wish it was a little longer and saw more of their connection outside of the steamy scenes. The epilogue was also super cute.

I don't want to go on too much more since this novella is less than 50 pages, so I don't want my review to be longer. It it was it says it is, an insta-love, sweet, steamy, feel good read. I'll definitely try more of Megan's books and am excited for her newest Wrong, Wright series.

How I Rate Books

Before I get into posting my reviews, I wanted to do a guideline for how I rate things. There are a lot of people that critically review and...
